Help Manuela fight brain tumour with Optune

Meet my dear friend Manuela. Manu is 37 years old and lives in a little village in England with her husband Scott, 2 daughters Chrissy and Maisie, a pug named Milo and 2 cats called Rosie and Henry. 

 Last summer, Manu was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of brain tumour. After surgery in London, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she unfortunately received the very sad news earlier this year, that the tumour has grown back. Manu had a second surgery in February this year and is currently recovering and undergoing further post-operative treatment. 

 We want to help her getting the best treatment possible to allow her to spend precious time with her family and friends. In particular we want to enable her to receive a therapy called Optune (https://www.optune.com/) here in the UK.  

A glioblastoma is a fast growing, aggressive tumour. Optune is a wearable, portable, FDA-approved treatment that creates low-intensity, wave-like electric fields called Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), which interfere with GBM cell division. This action slows or stops GBM tumor cells from dividing and may destroy them. In a large clinical study, people who added Optune to chemotherapy, had a greater opportunity to live longer than those who used chemotherapy alone. 

 Even though there are 1300 certified treatment centres in the USA and financed by many health systems in Europe, it is not supported in the UK. Manu’s oncologists here in the UK is supportive of the treatment and highlighted the positives effects of the device. 

 The treatment costs around GBP 19.000 per month. Please help us to make this treatment happening for Manu to give her a better chance to fight this tumour.
