Help Manny live a better life

Hello, my name is Diana Flores, and I am a college student asking for help for my best friend Manny. His previous owner, who was my neighbor, had put him in many dangerous situations which caused him to lose an eye and get attacked by bigger dogs on multiple occasions. I would always take care of Manny and visit him after school. When my neighbor was moving out, he was no longer able to take care of him so I begged my parents to let me keep him. He has now been my biggest companion. He barks at anyone who he sees is putting me in danger (like my grandma when she's tickling me). To him, I am also his best friend. Maybe not as nice of a friend when I have to give him his medicine, but the love remains strong. Since March 2020, Manny has shown many signs of discomfort and sadness. Because of the pandemic, I was taking my classes at home when one day I noticed he was struggling to breathe, and his stomach was larger than usual. Since then, he has gone to the vet multiple times to get checked up. The vets found that fluid was filling his stomach and chest cavity but they were not able to determine what was going on and how to stop it. As the fluids surrounded his lungs, it made it harder for him to breathe and uncomfortable to lay down. He would also stop eating or barely eat, which left him looking extremely skinny after getting drained. The vets had removed about 10-16oz of fluid on multiple occasions.  In early October, he had stayed awake the whole night, and no matter what I tried, he would not sleep. I was able to get pills from the veterinarian which helped him relax and sleep, but that was just a temporary solution. However, the vet only gave me a certain amount because "he(Manny) wasn't going to make it to the end of the month". Because of the pandemic, my parents are not able to afford the costs of medical expenses and as a full-time student, I can barely afford anything for myself. I fear that once I am stable enough to balance school and a job to save up the money I need for the specialist, it will be too late and put Manny through a lot of pain. At the moment, he is taking a pill that is meant to limit the fluid secretion in his body, but the fluids usually come back every 4-5 weeks. The donations made would be used to pay for the internal specialist who will take a closer look at what is going on inside his body. My college is potentially opening up for the spring semester, and I cannot bring myself to leave Manny behind until he gets the treatment he needs. 2020 has been an intense year to handle already, and I can't imagine starting 2021 without my best friend. I would be forever grateful for any help and donations. Anything helps!

Siempre cuidaría de Manny y lo visitaría después de la escuela. Cuando mi vecino se estaba mudando, ya no podía cuidarlo, así que les rogué a mis padres que me dejaran quedarme con él. Ahora ha sido mi mayor compañero. Le ladra a todo el que ve que me pone en peligro (como mi abuela cuando me hace cosquillas). Para él, también soy su mejor amiga. Tal vez no sea un amigo tan amable cuando tengo que darle su medicina, pero el amor sigue siendo fuerte. Desde marzo de 2020, Manny ha mostrado muchos signos de malestar y tristeza. Los veterinarios habían extraído alrededor de 10 a 16 oz de líquido en múltiples ocasiones. A principios de octubre, se había quedado despierto toda la noche y, no importaba lo que intentara, no dormía. Pude conseguir pastillas del veterinario que lo ayudaron a relajarse y dormir, pero eso fue solo una solución temporal. Sin embargo, el veterinario solo me dio una cierta cantidad porque "él (Manny) no iba a llegar a fin de mes". Debido a la pandemia, mis padres no pueden pagar los gastos médicos y, como estudiante de tiempo completo, apenas puedo pagarme nada. Temo que una vez que esté lo suficientemente estable para equilibrar la escuela y un trabajo para ahorrar el dinero que necesito para el especialista, será demasiado tarde y pondrá a Manny en mucho dolor. Por el momento, está tomando una pastilla destinada a limitar la secreción de líquidos en su cuerpo, pero los líquidos suelen regresar cada 4-5 semanas. Mi universidad se está abriendo potencialmente para el semestre de primavera, y no puedo dejar a Manny atrás hasta que reciba el tratamiento que necesita. 2020 ha sido un año intenso de manejar y no puedo imaginarme comenzar el 2021 sin mi mejor amigo.
