Help Mandalas Hostal Recover from Fire Damage

Hi Friends,

My name is Kawena and I started this GoFundMe on behalf of my dear friends at Mandalas Hostal, where I have volunteered and lived for the past two months in San Pedro La Laguna, lake Atitlan, Guatemala.

On Saturday may 20th, Mandalas was severely damaged by a fire that spread from the property next door. The fire demolished several rooms from the ground up. Due to the lack of firefighting resources in San Pedro, by the time it was able to be controlled by the community, the top two floors burned completely and the hostal had to be shut down.

Since 2019 Mandalas has been providing affordable rooms to travelers from all around the world. It is a place that brings people from all different countries and backgrounds together.

If you have ever stayed at Mandalas you know how special this place is, and how kind and amazing the staff are. They never hesitate to help out anyone who needs it, and I have seen them go above and beyond for their guests time and time again. No matter how big or small the matter, they are always there with open arms. Mandalas to many of us is more than just a hostel, it’s a home and a family.

The team is currently working closely with the guests who were staying at the hostel when the fire took place to sort out any personal belongings that may have been lost from the fire, fortunately, they were able to evacuate everyone safely and none was physically hurt.

The crew is fighting for the employees to be able to keep their jobs and get things up and running again. I am humbly asking for your help in this journey of restoring the hostal to its previous condition. Any donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated. The funds will go towards workers, materials and supplies to rebuild and also to ensure that all the employees have the means to provide for their families.
