Help Maizey Fight Cancer
Donation protected
We've had a lot of people ask "how can we help?" We decided to start this GoFundMe as a way for people to help support and learn updates on our girl, Maizey.
Maizey, our 1.5 year old golden retriever was diagnosed with a deadly and aggressive form of bone cancer known as Osteosarcoma on 09/01/23 after a confirmed bone biopsy test and we are absolutely devastated. She began limping on and off for a week or so and we noticed a "bump" on her front left leg. That's when we made the trip to the vet, expecting a torn ligament or at worst a broken bone from playing with her pup friends. That x-ray at the initial visit then was referred to a specialist where we did more scans along with the biopsy confirming this nightmare.
Never in a million years did we expect this..we always thought Maizey would grow old with us and our soon to be child due in January (as she loves babies and children!!)
Within 3-4 months Maizey will be gone if we do nothing. We know we have to fight for her , especially being so young. We've connected and met with several doctors, radiologists, and an oncologist to discuss our options. In an attempt to save her (or give her any sort of decent time left here with us) we will be moving forward with the amputation of her leg along with chemotherapy. The amputation will be done on 09/12/23 with the chemo beginning within days after. Along with this we will pursue the Yale vaccine.. offered in only a few US states, the closest to us being VA.
Next week begins our journey. In addition to the emotional aspect of our new reality, Maizey's leg amputation and rehab, chemotherapy, and vaccines alone will cost well over $10,000. Not to mention all that we've spent to date leading to this diagnosis, and her many follow up appointments, travel, and the various gear needed to support our soon to be Tripod girl.
Maizey and we could use all of the hope and prayers we can get during this time. Any amount you can give in support of Maizey's unforeseen journey will be so appreciated, along with the well wishes.
