Revive Healthcare in Sierra Leone

Donation protected
Hello friends and family! My name is Maila Turay, I am a nursing student at Temple University. I will be traveling to Sierra Leone with the support of UNICEF x Temple to donate medical equipment and textbooks to help revive the healthcare system. In order to make this costly trip feasible and as impactful as possible, I need some assistance.
Background

Living in the 14th poorest country on the planet, the people of Sierra Leone have had to make more with less for a long time. Lack of medical resources and trained healthcare personnel together make it difficult for their healthcare system to serve its population. Ranking #1in the world for mortality of children under 5 years old, the healthcare system in Sierra Leone is in dire need of revitalization.

The people of Sierra Leone are resilient. Civil war, a terrible Ebola epidemic, and disastrous mudslides have forged a society full of citizens ready to help one another. Despite this, Sierra Leone still needs help in order to foster a healthcare system prepared to deal with the healthcare challenges of people facing great struggles.

After speaking with Sheku Sillah, a Doctorate of Nursing Practice student at Temple University, we both realized that scarce medical equipment and a limited number healthcare professionals is the source of the problem. As educated, Sierra Leoneans and aspiring nursing professionals, we believe that it is our duty to revitalize the healthcare of our home country.

Mission

Sheku and I are travelling to Sierra Leone this May. We will be bringing with us donations of medical equipment for hospitals and healthcare textbooks for local colleges. Our goal in donating these resources is to strengthen the current healthcare system by addressing its lack of resources and limited number of trained personnel. Financial contributions will help cover costs of medical equipment, shipping, travel and lodging.

Donate

Aside from monetary contributions, donations of any medical equipment or textbooks would make a huge difference. Please reach out to [email redacted] for physical donations.

I am extremely grateful to everyone able to donate or share with friends and family in order to help as many Sierra Leoneans as possible. Thank you all, it means a great deal to me.

Donations will be given to the following:

Kahala Government Hospital
Bo Government Hospital
Portloko Government Hospital
Sierra Leone School of Nursing
Sierra Leone School of Medicine
