My name is Maia Moore, I am a single mother of (1), full time student, and working mom. On 05/21/2026 we received the worst news ever. City Marshalls came to tell everyone that stayed in my apartment building that we had 24 hours to pack up and leave. Just a little background on me and my daughter situation; Before we moved to Thomasville N.C., we were homeless for 7 months. It was a hard time for me and my baby as well. I found out about the apartment available at Carolina Apartments and felt like it was the right move and a fresh start. On 03/01/2026 I paid for the first month and security and we moved in and furnish our apartment. The following month I received my refund check from school (DDCC) and I paid the rent up all the way until July. The issue that I am facing with the landlord is that he knew that the way an issue within this building before he moved me in an accepted any payment. I feel like me and my daughter should get all our money back for that simple matter. The landlord will not answer for anyone but has stated that we have to wait 30 days and send a forwarding address to receive deposit back. Not to mention that he knew they were coming to shut that building down and dint even have a heart to notify not one of his tenants that we would be put out on the streets in less than 24 hours. Thankfully we had people there helping us find somewhere to go. So as of now my daughter and I found a two bedroom apartment, I was able to transfer lights, water and internet. Three weeks prior to this incident my truck completely went out, so now we are without transportation as well. The first night we had to stay in a hotel room because I had to get what I could to put it in the storage that night before the locked the building. Not to mention the kids had EOG’s this week it was just horrible. Currently now we are asking for help with donations so we can furnish our apartment, food…. etc. In the meantime I am thankful that we found somewhere to go. It is unbelievable what we accomplished and done in just 24 hours. To be honest I think I still am in total and complete shock. My main and first priority at the moment is to find a stove so that I will be able to cook.
