Help Maggie’s Dogs to cover unexpected vets bills.

After enjoying a wonderful weekend away with our dogs Kiki, Jessie and Minnie we were planning a return visit to Sandrigham Camp site on our way home.
Little did we know coming home on that Sunday what was going to happen.

In the early hours of Monday morning all three dogs fell ill.  They were clearly in a lot of pain and vomiting. I’d never seen them so ill before. I thought it was something they’d eaten on our walk in the woods at Sandrigham estate.

The thing was it just got worse and worse with all three dogs becoming increasingly ill and lethargic.

Something in the back of my memory made me re check the information sheet we had received on checking in at the camp site.  At the end of the leaflet I found the sentence ‘that dogs had been known to develop Seasonal Canine Illness in the area of the Sandrigham woods’.

After a quick look on the internet I immediately took my dogs to the vet.

I’ve never heard of this illness and I’ve had dogs all my life.

It turns out that this illness occurred for the first time is 2009. No one really knows what causes it. It is only active from August to November. It can be fatal. I want all dog owners to be aware of this illness. Please please check if the woodland you are walking your dogs in has had cases and avoid those areas between August and November.

All three of my girls (as I call them) had to be hospitalised,  receiving emergency treatment. Kiki the Shitzu is still extremely ill.

Our girls are rescue ex puppy farm breeders. We adopted them (except Jessie) from Many Tears Rescue.

Pet Insurers are not keen to offer cover to dogs who have been puppy farm breeders as the dogs don’t have a health history. So we have been hit by a massive vets bill. It’s coming up to £2000 and may still rise.

Could you help us towards the cost?

Whats even more awful for us is that we had to have our beloved Lucy (another rescue from Many Tears) put to sleep just over a week ago after she had acouple of seizures.  That too involved emergency vet visits.

Any money in excess of what we need will be donated to Many Tears Rescue so they can continue the wonderful work they do.
