Eben-Ezer, thus far the Lord has helped us! 1 Samuel 7:12

August 14th, 2021 seemed like a regular day  in Haiti.  But at 8:29am it made history. In the morning of August 14th, I took my Bible to have my quiet time and went to the kitchen to get a cup of tea.  As I was reaching for the cup,  the whole house began shaking.  I did not know where to turn.  Then I realized I had to get out, but it was difficult to move my feet. Holding the counter, I cried ¨«Jesus», and I got strength to move towards the door.  It was difficult to get out to the porch.  While reaching for the gate to go down the stairs leading outside, I cried again «Jesus».  Somehow, I was able to reach the yard with all the 7 other people living in the house.  I kept saying «earthquake, earthquake».  It was quite an experience.

After catching my breath, I started calling my husband, my sisters in Port-au-Prince, my father, and the staff at Child Care where I work. People were also calling me.  I found out that several houses collapsed, some cracked, and several people died.  Many people have been asking how can they help and where do we start.  On Saturday, the 21st, I went to visit my hometown, Maniche, along with my sister and some other people.  I saw complete desolation.  I could not even recognize the house where I grew up, it was completely down.  I went through the streets, and there were almost no houses.  The ones that were up were damaged and people could not get inside.  In fact, 98% of the houses are down according to the official reports.

When I was in 3rd grade, a lady by the name of Gilanie worked for my parents and took care of me.  After I got married in 1981,  this time, Gilanie worked for me and raised my 4 kids. She unfortunately passed away in 2005. She loved her village and build a house for her mother. I decided to find out what happened to the village where she was from, Madame Isotte.  From the 51 houses in the area, only 4 remained standing but were cracked.  The people are staying in the streets with no tarps, no tents, and no drinking water. They have nothing.  The village is remote, and they are not getting any help.  2 people died from the earthquake.  One was in the field gardening, and they have not found him but guess he is buried in the ground.  In the name of Gilanie,  I would like to bring hope to these deperate people in helping meet the short term needs at the moment.  Our hope is to help rebuild in the long run, but we have to meet their immediate needs as we think through the long-term.  At this time, I would like to bring to each family:

25 pounds of rice

½ gallon of oil

1 box of Laundry soap

1 tarp

10 aqua tab to treat 50 gallons of water.

Based on a group of 50 people in this community, the total amount of 7K CAD/$5.5K USD will cover their immediate needs and includes
logistics and any transaction fees to ensure they receive these basic necessities, this comes out to about $110USD/person.  You can make a difference in the life of these families.  Every single penny will be accounted for. We will ensure that you receive a report that includes
pictures.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Only because of Him who has given me life,
