Macy, our two-year-old American pit bull terrier, came into our lives from the Wood County Dog Shelter after being surrendered by her previous family. In just a month and a half, she’s shown herself to be a quick learner and a loving companion. We’re now working to train Macy as a service animal to help Kevin, who has faced significant health challenges over the past two years. Once fully trained, Macy will be able to press buttons to open doors, retrieve dropped items like phones and keys, bring specific items such as an inhaler, close doors, and even help with Kevin’s manual wheelchair and equipment. Our goal is for Macy to help Kevin regain some independence and improve his quality of life each day.
Kevin was fully independent until two years ago, when a sudden health decline left him unable to walk without assistive devices and reliant on a wheelchair. His condition has progressed, causing severe tremors and pain that make daily tasks nearly impossible without help. With two young kids at home and myself working full time, it’s been difficult for Kevin to get the support he needs throughout the day. Macy’s training will not only help with physical tasks but also provide much-needed companionship and emotional support for Kevin.
We’ve spent countless hours researching and have found an excellent service animal training program for Macy. However, the costs for training, travel, and specialized equipment add up quickly. We’re reaching out for support to help cover these expenses so Macy can become the service dog Kevin needs. Your generosity will make a real difference in our family’s life and help Kevin regain his independence.
