Help Mackenzie on her long journey!

Donation protected
On February 12th, Mackenzie and Victor were on vacation, about to leave Mexico to head home to Seattle. While Mackenzie was at the airport ticket kiosk, Victor watched as Mackenzie's eyes rolled back and she fell to the floor. Thankfully, her fall was broken by her backpack, but her head hit the tile floor nonetheless. She went into a full seizure, and as she convulsed, her whole face turned blue and she foamed at the mouth. Thankfully, Victor knew to hold her head so she wouldn't injure herself more, and a nurse (who luckily was also in the airport traveling) ran over to Mackenzie, and helped her airway open.

When her seizure finally stopped, an ambulance was able to rush her to an emergency room in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico. Mackenzie remembers being in disbelief that it even happened - she was thankfully unconscious for the seizure itself.

They did a bunch of tests in Mexico and they were thankfully able to conclude that she doesn't have a brain tumor, a brain bleed, or a cracked scull. However, she was diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and has Post-Concussion Syndrome. As you can see in the photo, she had to have a big ice pack strapped to her head, because in her words, "It hurt like HELL."

Hospitals are a lot different in Mexico, and the ONLY way they would let her leave the country is if she paid $5,000 up front, immediately. So of course, she paid the $5,000 the only way she could - on her credit card.

Now she's home safe, but the doctor bills keep adding up. She went to the ER when she got home, and is seeing a neurologist regularly because sadly, she is still having seizures and they are working on a treatment plan. In the meantime, she is not able to work and spends a lot of time on her favorite couch, drinking tea, playing puzzles, and hanging out with her fur baby/nurse Duke. She is also very thankful for her mom, dad, and Victor who are nursing/babysitting her 24/7!

Mackenzie is in quite the pickle - she's got $5,000 racking up interest on her credit card, a whole host of new bills in the U.S., and no ability to work until she can get her seizures under control.

So, her friends and family are asking for help on behalf of our dear Mackenzie. She's been through an incredibly traumatic event and it continues to be a confusing time. Anything helps and we so appreciate your support!
