<div>The Story Behind Lupita
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, a truly heartbreaking incident unfolded live on BBC Breakfast. While the show was broadcasting from Richmond Riverside, a loose dog jumped from a kayak, chasing and brutally mauling a beloved local feral duck named Lupita. The shocking footage went viral, leaving thousands of viewers deeply concerned for her survival. Thanks to the swift actions of local heroes—including Vivi (@veevs), Mark Edwards MBE, and James (@lsupco)—Lupita was successfully pulled from the river and rushed to a specialist veterinarian.

</div>
<div>Her Current Condition : X-rays have revealed that Lupita is suffering from a broken pelvis and severe leg trauma. Feral ducks are incredibly sensitive, and the risk of delayed shock from such a violent attack is high. Lupita is currently resting and recovering in a quiet, safe, and stress-free environment at the home of Ann, a dedicated independent bird rescuer. Ann is providing around-the-clock specialized care, administering vital pain relief, monitoring her food intake, and helping her slowly rebuild her strength and trust.

<div>Independent wildlife rehabilitators like Ann do incredible work completely out of their own pockets and homes. They do not receive government funding or the large-scale donations that major charities do.Every single penny raised through this campaign will go directly toward supporting Lupita’s ongoing journey to recovery.
