Help Lucas Get to Texas for Surgery

Donation protected
A friend and fellow mommy has recently learned that her young son is going to need to undergo an invasive reconstructive skull surgery. This surgery has come as a surprise and the upcoming costs are going to put a huge financial strain on the family. They will be forced to relocate for 8 weeks to another state, pay for travel, housing and living expenses, in addition to their current expenses.
Lucas was diagnosed with scaphocephaly.
Scaphocephaly is a form of craniosynostosis caused by early closure of the sagittal sutures in the skull.
Since Lucas is 3, he will have to have a more invasive open surgery. This surgery is called total cranial vault reconstruction and involves removing sections of the skull and reshaping them to correct the head shape and give the brain room to grow, preventing future developmental delays.
UVA has an excellent team of doctors, but there is a surgeon in the TX area who has developed a new less invasive approach to the procedure involving less hospital time. His patients require fewer blood transfusions, do not require dissolvable plates and screws and have a 2% second surgery rate as opposed to traditional treatment. He has graciously agreed to perform the surgery on Lucas. The family are very relieved that he has agreed to the perform the surgery but are now faced with task of relocating to for 8 weeks.

Please help us support this well deserving family get their child the surgery he desperately needs!
Thank you❤️
