Help Lucas Cover Chemo Costs
There are few things in life more difficult than hearing the news that you have cancer. In my brother’s case, it has been made worse because he is so young—only 45–and was completely blindsided by not only the diagnosis, but by its seriousness.
Having just returned a few months earlier from the adventure of a lifetime, an eight-month stint in Antarctica, we all believed Luke was in perfect health. He had comprehensive screenings before he left, but he was too young by six months for them to do a colonoscopy...and so it wasn’t until he was doing pre-op scans for back surgery in May that the spots on his liver were discovered.
When his doctors looked further, they found stage 4 metastatic colon cancer with extensive mets in the liver.
His treatment schedule is aggressive andlong-term. The doctors say that for the rest of his life, Lucas will need regular chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. The cost of this constant care will add up quickly. And while the doctors consider his case to be terminal, Lucas is in it to win it. We who love him, including his two kids, are hoping to have as much time with him as possible.
As he copes with the grueling treatment with his trademark sense of humor and stubborn refusal to quit, we can do little to ease the physical burden of his cancer journey, but we can do something about the financial burden.
