Septic shock Surgeries for Our Loving Father!!

Donation protected

Víctor Dawson is my dad, he is a 74-year-old man with a family that loves him and is praying and fighting for him to get better.  A few months ago he broke his hip because of a fall, his pain got worse and worse until he agreed to get xrays where we found out that the right femur was completely broken, he definitely needed an operation! He had the operation, they did all the pre-surgery tests and the Drs gave the ok to move forward with the operation, the operation took place on September 28th, 2018.

When the Dr. Came out of the operating room he showed us the femur completely destroyed, it was sent to biopsy and thank God there was no cancer found, but a lot of liquid was taken out from the bone,  which meant there was an infection somewhere in the body ( the doctors had no idea exactly where), we had faith that it would go away with intravenous antibiotics.  Even with the infection they put in the prosthesis and 5 days later he was out of the hospital, the xray after the hip surgery was good and the doctors said he was ready to go home.

We thought the ordeal was over but we were wrong. 3 days after leaving the hospital, the doctor requested a few tests to see how everything was going, and it is where we found out that his hemoglobin was at 6, which is way too low, the Dr. told us we had to return to the hospital immediately because my dad needed urgent blood transfusions.  He was given 6 bags of blood and his hemoglobin raised to 10. During this whole time he never stopped complaining of a pain in his stomach and a lot of phlegm, which at the beginning we thought were because of the gases caused by the anesthesia, none of the medicines that the dr prescribed worked, until he returned to the hospital and more test were run and it was found that that part of the small intestine was perforated  and there was a big infection in all the stomach, peritonitis was diagnosed. This meant he had to have another surgery, as soon as it was discovered he went into emergency surgery, part of the small intestine was taken and it was sent to biopsy ( thankfully it came back negative).  My dad was intubated and was close to death in the ICU for 5 days... this was 10 days after the 1st operation ( hip surgery), we finally were able to leave the hospital on October 26th, 2018, thank God who never left our side and who helped us get through this once again. He left the hospital with part of his intestine outside his body, and we kept praying hoping that the antibiotics would take all the infection away and they would not have to open him up again!  And thank God we overcame this battle.

In these 2 operations, medical expenses, hospital expenses, antibiotics outside the hospital, disposable bags that were bought every week for 6 months we had spent more than 60,000 dollars, all of his savings and profit from the sale of his business that he had for all of his life were gone, and all of the help from our family as well. The people that know my dad know how hard he has worked all of his life and how he has worked to have everything that he has in his life.

Monday, April 22nd  ( 6 months after everything we went through before) he went into surgery again to get his intestine connected again. During the surgery they found a cyst behind his kidney which made them delay the surgery almost 55 minutes in the operating room while they waited for a urologist to make an emergency consult of the cyst and thankfully thank God (again!) It was only liquid, they finished the operation and it seemed that everything was a success.

A few days after the surgery he was very tired, water in his left lung was discovered and an arrhythmia was found, we had to be transferred to another hospital  because where we were at they did not have the necessary machines to run tests in his lungs and to see the inflammation of his stomach ( which had drastically changed overnight). We had spent over $10,000 more dollars in that hospital.

Now that we were in the other hospital they gave us the news that they would have to operate again( this was now his 4th operation),  the staples used to close his surgery were rejected by his body and they had to once again take his small intestine out of his body, now we don't know for how long.  He was sent to intermediate care where we have to pay $2000 dollars daily not counting medical fees, we have run out of money for which we ask for your help, everything and any amount is welcome, we have no idea how much we will pay in this hospital or how long my father will be here but we know it won't be a small bill. We are more than grateful with you all, God bless you all.
