Help Louinel get a chance!

Meet Louinel. He is a 22 year old young Haitian man who wants a chance - a chance to make his life better by attending nursing school - a real future.

Louinel has been a part of our family’s life since he was 9 years old. He is a kind, hard working kid who is looking to fulfill his dream of coming to the United States to go to nursing school. He has the chance to change his life’s path forever at NWTC (Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College) in Green Bay.

Many of you may know that Haiti has been a big part of our family’s life for many years. My parents first went to Haiti to do volunteer medical work in 2001 and my dad is getting ready for his 49th  mission in October. I have had the pleasure of going to Haiti 5 times on mission to work with “Friends of Haiti”. My life has been changed by meeting so many amazing people in the mountain villages of Haiti. Louienel is one who always stood out. He grew up in the village of Grand Boulange,  alone and without parents. He has never known his parents but, thankfully, he was raised by an elderly couple who made sure he was cared for in exchange for help he gave them. The Haitian people are the kindest people; they cherish life and strive to do their best.  Their struggles are immense, but they would never turn their back on one of their own. It is hard to get ahead when there are so many hurdles in front of you. We have seen so many struggle during the medical missions we have taken as a family.  Seventeen Vogels have gone to Haiti over the last 20 years to help make a difference.

During one of our medical mission visits, it became apparent that  Louinel had congenital heart disease and needed heart surgery in order to survive. If you know my parents, they made it their mission to make this happen so he could live the life he deserved. My dad and the amazing group “Friends of Haiti” worked for over a year to get Louienel to Wisconsin to have the life saving surgery; he was 9 years old.  He had surgery in Milwaukee and was able to travel to my parents house for visits. We were thrilled that he was able to celebrate Thanksgiving with us as he recovered.

Louinel is now 22 years old and has the chance to come to Wisconsin to go to nursing school and change his life forever. He needs $18,000 for tuition and room and board to attend nursing school at NWTC. We are committed to flying him here and getting him started to achieve his goal. My parents have paid for him to go to school in Haiti to learn English. That wasn’t enough to get a high school diploma in Haiti so he arranged and paid for himself to get to the Domincan Republic to become fluent in French, English and Spanish.   He has a high school diploma and is ready for more; he is ready to make a difference.

Louinel will be under my parents watchful eye to help him achieve his lifelong dream of coming to the United States and becoming a part of the medical community that saved his life.

If you have it in your heart to help Louinel achieve his dream, he would be forever grateful. This amazing young man calls my parents Mom and Dad because they are the closest he has known to parents; we think he deserves a chance and we hope you do too.

Anything helps and it all adds up. Thank you so much for considering helping this cause that is so close to my heart. I am determined to get Louinel to Wisconsin and into nursing school.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
