Help Loop Growers farm with flood recovery

Donation protected
Loop's only paddock was quickly overtaken by floodwaters yesterday. All crops are submerged and their precious healthy topsoil is being eroded. Three buildings full of equipment have been flooded. Thousands of dollars of materials have been damaged or washed away, including seed raising mix, bins for collecting compost, electric power tools, hand tools, repair and mechanical work for machinery, dog food, chicken food and submerged buildings and cars. Water is continuing to rise and fall so the full extent of the damage and loss is still unknown.

From Loop
"We just got all the animals out in time and managed to tow out 2 submerged utes and a walk behind tractor with the help of dad’s big tractor. It came up so fast we had no time to do anything else. At the shallowest point the water is thigh high, which is where all the buildings are. At the deepest, it would be almost over my head. Big day and it’s still raining.”

A lot of you will already know Loop Growers because you are part of the wide community they have created. But if you are new - Loop is a "closed-loop" farm that grows seasonal produce for local businesses while diverting kitchen scraps from landfill.

Loop is lovingly cared for by Philip Garozzo & our sister Alice Star on Jinibara and Yuggera Land and the preservation of this earth and all its inhabitants is at the heart of their work. They have created a close-knit community through connections with volunteers, venue partners (e.g. cafes and restaurants), hosting many events, including workshops, farm tours, farmer meetups, fundraisers and community dinners.

This farm has continued to provide for the community through many major ups and downs - this is the second major flood that they have experienced and the last fundraiser for the farm was for the devastating droughts in 2019 - they truly have been through it all.

Without Loop Growers, so many amazing connections, businesses and friends would not exist. It is a place of meeting, sharing and caring for the earth. Helping rebuild Loop is a way for us city-dwellers to give back as we all rely on the local food chain to survive. It will take a long time to rebuild Loop, but with the help of our community we can make it easier and quicker to get them growing and composting again.
