Hi, I’m Liz! I’m a 25 year old trans woman from Alabama, and I unfortunately have to move on very short notice. I've lived with my father in his home for the last year and a half, but financial issues are forcing us to move out so he can put the house up for rent. I cannot move with him, and need to find housing elsewhere. Thankfully, I have friends in Boston who are looking for a roommate and have offered me a new place to live.
Moving from Alabama to Massachusetts is going to be very expensive. I don't have a car with enough space to store all of my belongings, and renting a U-Haul for the trip would cost at least $1,200 according to the pricing calculator on their website. I'm making this fundraiser with a goal of $1,500 to cover the cost of the U-Haul, plus $300 for any unforeseen expenses. If I end up not needing to spend the additional $300 during the trip, it will go to helping me pay for my first month's rent while I find employment in Boston.
The logistics of the move are also... complicated. I have to leave the house by July 22, 2025, which gives me less than a month to prepare. I also have a lovely cat named Mr. Obama (his full given name is "Former 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama") who will move with me, and presumably scream for the entire trip. He's a sweetheart. I fortunately do not have a lot of possessions to pack, but I do need to rent a U-Haul or other truck with at least 5,000lbs of towing capacity to tow my car.
My friends have graciously offered to help me move, and we have our trip entirely planned out. Audrey, who is helping me organize this fundraiser, is coming down to Alabama to help me pack and travel with me during the move. We've organized stops up the East Coast to split the trip into multiple eight-hour drives, and will be on the road for about four days.
I'm incredibly excited to start this new chapter in my life despite the stressful circumstances that have made it necessary! With your help, the process should hopefully go as smoothly as possible. Thank you so much for your time and any contribution you make!
