<div>My sister Ayesha and her wife Melissa brought their 13-month-old son Dylan from the UK to visit my parents in Florida. What began as a great vacation quickly became every parent's worst fear when Dylan suddenly fell ill.
</div>
<div>It started like a simple stomach bug, but his condition continued to get worse. My sister and her wife kept him monitored, and tried their best to keep Dylan hydrated and fed as he got through the worst of his bug. However, he seemed to be getting worse by the day, and a quick trip to urgent care seemed like the best plan for his health. This soon became an emergency room visit, which turned into a week-long stay at the children's hospital as Dylan was in critical condition with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). That's when we learned Dylan has Type 1 diabetes. The doctors said Dylan was the youngest child they'd ever diagnosed with the condition, and that at his age it's nearly impossible for a parent to pick up on any warning signs before it's too late.

<div>While we're grateful Dylan is now stable and getting the care he needs, Ayesha and Melissa are facing an unimaginable financial burden. As UK citizens visiting the US, they had travel insurance, but it doesn't cover the full cost of Dylan's emergency treatment and hospital stay. The bills are already over $250,000 and continue to grow.
</div>
<div>In the UK, this care would have been covered by the NHS. But here in the US, a medical emergency during what was supposed to be a family vacation has left them with crushing debt that could take decades to pay off.
</div>
<div>Dylan is a bright, happy little boy who deserves every chance at a healthy future. His 7 year old sister Callie is his best friend. His parents are incredible people who would do anything for him - and now they need our help to ensure this medical crisis doesn't destroy their family financially.
</div>
