Help Lisa Get Through Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
I'm Lisa, a 47 year old writer, web developer, fangirl. On January 29, 2020, after several days in the hospital for a hemorrhage, I got the scary news that I have endometrial cancer. I need help covering my living expenses as I go through treatment. $5000 will help pay for what disability and my insurance won't over the coming six to eight months. The less time I have to worry about feeding my pets (and me!) and keeping the lights on, the more time I have to focus on beating this damn thing.

Initially, it sounded as if I was lucky and would face surgical treatment and a full cure. Further testing with my oncologist has shown that isn't the case. The cancer is more aggressive and more advanced than we thought. I have more testing ahead of me, but I am looking at the strong likelihood of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation... and the possibility of no cure at all.

I am fortunate to have disability benefits, but in a good month I am still left with a $500/month shortfall, which I was covering with a little freelance work for nonprofit organizations and some writing income. I was even hoping to finish and sell another book this year.

I'm not able to do that now. Worse, I don't expect to see 'good' months in the immediate future. My actual medical expenses should be mostly covered, but insurance doesn't cover everything: I'm looking at higher expenses for things like gas money to get to treatments (a 45 minute drive), more medical co-pays, and I don't even know what else.

So I need help.

The amount I have listed will keep the lights on and everybody fed for the next 6-8 months, with a little extra to purchase a clothes dryer to make getting laundry done easier. Anything above and beyond that will get stored away for future months, because I have no idea how much time I'm looking at here for treatment.

Anything will help. Even just sharing this on social media.

I'll be posting updates here, and on my blog

One of the words on my tattoo is "Hope". It's never felt more necessary.
