My best friend's 15 year old brother Linus needs a heart transplant. After countless trips to hospitals throughout Uganda we were told that Linus had Rheumatic Heart Disease and was in need of valve repair. No doctor in Uganda agreed to the surgery so I began contacting doctors in the US, Sudan, and Nepal. Today, we learned that Linus was misdiagnosed, something that unfortunately happens quite often in hospitals without experienced echocardiographers. Linus has dilated cardiomyopathy and his heart is inoperable because the issue is not structural or anatomical but is an issue of the heart muscle itself. In summary Linus's heart has really poor contractility meaning he is not able to push an appropriate amount of blood into circulation. The EF on his report is 13% meaning that only 13% of the blood that fills the left side of his heart is actually ejected. In people with normal heart function, this is >60%.
If you're able, please share this with your networks. Help me raise funds for Linus and his family to cover international and domestic travel expenses, testing costs, current medications, and a heart transplant. Even more I ask that you would pray for a full reversal and that his heart would respond well to his medications. In God's Kingdom all this is possible, and more.
Linus in the middle, with siblings and cousins.
Linus' sister and my dear friend, Gorrety. Gorrety is currently studying public health at Georgetown and has big dreams of improving Uganda's healthcare system. Dreams that families in Uganda won't have to endure what her family has.
Thank you so much for your support for this precious family. God bless you.
