Help Link The Kitten Fight For A Long Happy Life

Link is an energetic kitten with a warm and gentle personality that any animal lover would find impossible not to adore. Link came to his forever home this past June at 12 weeks old, bringing some closure to mine and Zelda’s recent loss. 2020 has been a trying year for all; for me, it started off with losing my cat of 11 years, Kizzy, to cardiomyopathy. Zelda is only two years old, and after losing Kizzy, she often wandered the house looking for her friend. Over the summer, I decided it was the right time and brought Link into our lives.

Link is sick with something called FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). FIB is a mutation of a coronavirus that is thought to be mostly fatal by veterinarians. Link started to show signs of illness in early fall. After many tests, I was left with an unimaginable prognosis. I watched from the sidelines as Link went from a zippy kitten to listless.

The good news is that Link and I are fighters. Will some guidance and research, I found that FIB does not have to be fatal! Link has been on an antiviral medication called “GS” since November 19th. Link’s fever broke within hours of his first dose. His appetite, energy, and personality have been brought back to life.

Diagnosing Link took about a month and included blood work, electrophoresis, x-rays, an ultrasound, needle biopsy, and supportive fluids. These tests cost almost $2,000, and the real battle has only begun to be fought. Since starting GS, I have watched Link fill back up with youth. He once again gets to be a kitten.

This journey has been challenging, both emotionally and financially. Link and I are asking for any assistance you’d be willing to provide. The GS medication is exceptionally costly, and Link will need to be on it for at least 12 weeks. Any money raised will be used explicitly for his medicine and supportive treatment related directly to his FIP illness. FIP has a cure; unfortunately, it costs thousands of dollars. I will do everything in my power to help Link, but I too could use some help.

I love my kitties, for me they are my children. Link has a great chance to have a normal life, the life he truly deserves. We will prevail, and we thank you for any and all contributions. I will be sure to provide weekly updates with pictures to include you all in his recovery.

A big thanks from Link, Zelda, and Josh.
