My daughter, Linda Grace Kadel, (22 years old)has been sick for approximately 3 years, dealing with gastro issues. She was diagnosed with MALS (MEDIAN Arcuate Ligament Syndrome) and SMAS (Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome). Linda had to quit her job at Starbucks, as a Barista, which she loved. Only approximately 1 percent of the population has this, mainly your females. Linda has to have atleast two major surgeries to hopefully give her life back. As a result of these two conditions, she can barely eat or drink much at any given time. She is in constant pain. These two conditions involve the main artery going into her stomach, which is compressed and the nerve compressing it. Linda is having the surgery in California, with Dr. Shouhed, as the surgeon. Dr. Shouhed is the top surgeon in the country for MALS and SMAS, which can't be done together. Dr. Shouhed is also out of network of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, therefore he wants his fees up front, which is $25,000 each surgery. Dr. Shouhed performs the surgery robotically and is the only surgeon in the country that does this for MALS and SMAS. The insurance covers most of the hospital charges. When we have to go and get the SMAS surgery, we will have to stay in California approximately a month due to the complicated surgery. We had the MALS surgery a week and a half ago by Dr. Shouhed and are back in Florida. Linda is on a liquid diet for a couple of weeks due to also having hiatel hernia surgery. Linda also had to get an ileostomy back in January 2024 and her colon and most of her large intestines removed in November 2024. We are asking for $50,000 for the surgeries, travel and living expenses while in California. We have exhausted all avenues of financial assistance and currently no grants available. We just want Linda to get back to a somewhat normal life and not be in pain and hungary all the time. She only weighs 83 pounds, right now. In the last year alone, Linda has been to the emergency room approximately 30 times and has had a CT of the abdomen done atleast 30 times.
