Help Linda fight Parkinson's!

Donation protected
Hey friends!

My amazing mom, Linda Prisco is about to undergo a series of 3 major surgeries that will greatly improve her life and reduce her Parkinson's Disease symptoms. As she prepares to get Deep Brain Stimulation, we are quickly realizing that there are costs that outweigh us at this time. This is no small feat for my Mom and I. Since it's just the two of us, and because we also take care of my grandma (who also has Parkinson's Disease), we're asking for your help during this stressful but ultimately rewarding time!

Please help me take care of my Mom so that she can live an independent life. She deserves this procedure and although we are nervous, we are so determined to get her the care that she needs without making her pay a cent. Jordan and I are proud to be her caregivers and we believe that anyone who needs this kind of medical care should not worry about how to pay for it.

We are fronting some of the costs ourselves, but we would love to use anything we raise to help pay medical bills, transportation costs to and from the hospital, a health aide who can come while we work to check on her, and anything else that she urgently and suddenly needs but cannot pay for.

Mom will go through a series of 3 surgeries to implant 2 leeds with into her brain and 2 batteries on each side of her collarbone to power those leeds. Think of it as a permanent circuit system for the brain.  When this system is turned on, she will have better control of her body because currents will flow from the batteries to the leeds to stimulate the parts of her brain that aren't functioning correctly due to her PD. Simply put, the surgery will enable her to decrease her Parkinson's medications by 50% and allow her to walk without a walker, stand without losing her balance, and wake up in the morning ready to move instead of waiting for her pills to kick in. This process will start at the end of November and extend to March.

Thanks for reading and please spread the word, this incredible Mom needs your help!

Much love,
Nicole and Jordan

More about PD and DBS:
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the 2nd most common neurological disorder that causes the brain to stop producing dopamine, a chemical responsible for coordinating motor skills. The lack of dopamine causes those with PD to experience symptoms like a resting tremor, slowed movement, stiffness in limbs, or problems with mobility and balance. No two patients have the same set of symptoms, and this irregularity makes both research and treatment of PD more difficult. As the specific cause is unknown, patients treat their symptoms with medications that have debilitating side effects such as dyskinesia, unregulated involuntary movements.

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) provides relief from the same symptoms treated by levodopa with a level of consistency that cannot be regulated with pills. Furthermore, the procedure allows patients to dramatically reduce the amount of medication they take, in turn diminishing the side-effects associated with levodopa and increasing overall quality of life.
