My name is Michelle and my cat Lily Belle is the center of my universe. She's my very affectionate velcro kitty, who has stuck by my side every day for the past 10 years. She is the biggest ball of love you will ever meet! She was recently diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. She is 11 years old and so far has not experienced any complications - no anemia, blood pressure is good, weight is steady. Therefore, we should be able to get her symptoms to a manageable level, possibly bringing her down to stage 1 (she is currently on the line between stage 1 and stage 2), at which point most cats are asymptomatic. It could take some time to get her there though. Although she likes her knew prescription diet, she's struggling with nausea/low appetite (typical kidney disease symptoms) which is making it hard to normalize her. She does NOT do well with any type of meds at home, so I have to take her to the vet if she needs subcutaneous fluids, injections of medications to help with nausea, etc. Her prescription diet is also very expensive, and she will need continued monitoring, plus the vet is weighing the possibility of hospitalizing her overnight to flush out her system with IV fluids in order to stabilize her (I am hoping to avoid that due to the trauma, but if nothing else works, it may have to be done). I am unable to work due to chronic health problems and my income from disability insurance is very small. I have been charging all her costs for testing and treatment so far, but I don't like having so much debt (I am already underwater due to dental and car repairs I needed over the past year). I would really like to pay off what I have charged so far and have a cushion to help pay for upcoming expenses so at least money will not be a factor in my decision making. Given that she's barely a senior and that her disease was caught early before any complications could arise, it *should* be possible to get Lily's symptoms down to a much more manageable baseline, slow progression of the disease, and give her at least a few years of quality life! She means the world to me, so I appreciate anything anyone can do to help me manage her expenses. I just want my happy kitty back, and I want her with me as long as possible.
