Lida Llundo is a single mother and immigrant from Ecuador who has been fighting for her daughter’s wellbeing and safety since 2021. Since her daughter was three years old, Lida has recognized and consistently reported symptoms what she believed to be signs of sexual abuse. Lida has routinely been on the receiving end of gender-based discrimination from the courts, DCF, and New Haven Police for insisting on a thorough evaluation of her daughter’s sexual abuse allegations against her father. Due to the institutional failures of multiple departments that are responsible for investigating allegations of abuse, Lida has had to fight for custody of her daughter through family court and present her concerns for her daughter’s safety. A persistent pattern of discrimination employed by the courts, DCF and police have forced Lida to pay over $20,000 in attorney fees since 2021 for representation in court and to lead the strategy of highlighting misconduct and bias in her custody case. If her daughter remains in her father’s custody, it will be increasingly difficult for her child to disclose abuse.

Following a medical report regarding the most recent allegations of child sexual abuse from Lida’s daughter, Vivan Las Autonomas launched a campaign to support Lida as she fights for custody of her daughter. Members of our organization have witnessed her daughter independently disclose details of abuse to DCF workers and the police in addition to crying for her mother when she was taken from her custody. As an organization, we’ve witnessed the discrimination and negligence from NHPD and DCF. They have failed to conduct a fair and impartial investigation or appear in court when subpoenaed, which has cost Lida thousands of dollars in lawyer fees. Vivan Las Autonomas is launching this fundraiser to support Lida in paying attorney fees for the long custody battle ahead. She expects to pay over $20,000, again, to have a fighting chance. We are pledging to match the first $1,000 in GoFundMe donations.
