Help Lex physically and financially get on her feet again
Donation protected
Hi folks - if we haven't met before, my name is Lex and I'm creating this GoFundMe to help cover my financial needs while I focus on recovering from a sprained ankle with added complications from joint hypermobility.
On February 23, I sprained my ankle while at work and haven't been able to go back for the last 40 days because of my injury. While I've been able to receive some funds from my worker's compensation claim and so far have my new medical expenses covered, these claim checks are only 2/3 of my average weekly wage from over the last year. I'm a server at The Sports Bra in Portland, Oregon, which means that about 60% of my income is tips (thankfully calculated into this average). With how extremely different a high paycheck and low paycheck have looked like for me over the last year at The Bra, well let's just say that 2/3 of that weekly average is absolutely unlivable.
Unfortunately for me, when bad luck rains, it's really just a classic Oregon torrential downpour. January was plagued with enough work closures due to inclement weather and personal sickness that I only worked a total of 7 days for the month. February seemed to be looking up, but 5 days prior to my injury, my tire blew out while driving home and I crashed into a crosswalk signal, totaling my car that I had already paid off. I had to purchase a new vehicle and now have a car payment that I definitely wasn't anticipating.
With all of 2024 being one big financial emergency in one way or another, my savings is completely gone. If you know me at all, asking for financial assistance isn't something that I do unless I'm truly in a position that requires it to survive. While I'm actively in physical and occupational therapy and have made considerably progress since I first sprained my ankle, the day I can return to work gets farther and farther away if I'm not able to stay off my feet as much as possible. Most of my usual odd jobs have ended up creating considerably more pain and I've been told by my physical therapist to stop working them so I don't create more opportunities to re-injure myself. With the added complication of recently being diagnosed with joint hypermobility and having the increased likelihood of re-injuring my ankle, I'm truly at a loss and now am asking you, my community, for help to survive.
Right now with my timeline of returning to work being so up in the air, I'm asking for help with covering approximately 2 months of expenses. This will includes fixed expenses such as rent/utilities, car payment, medical/car insurance, and student loans, as well as non-fixed expenses, such as gas, non-injury-related medical costs, and making sure I can feed myself and my cat, Charlotte.
If you have the capacity to donate to this fund or even if you're only able to share it online, please know that I cannot overstate how much your support means to me. Every dollar contributed to this fund is a dollar that I don't have to worry about earning, making it easier for me to breathe and have my job right now be to heal.
