This is Leo. Leo is a 6 (almost 7, his birthday is in 2 weeks) year old DSH that my fiancé and I adopted over a year ago now. He was an outside cat most of his life but has always loved people. He now loves the indoor life and has never looked back. Leo is FIV+, so we’ve been doing our best to keep him as healthy as possible, but he has unfortunately been dealing with some pretty serious urinary issues over the last two months.

This led us to this past Thursday, where he developed a urinary blockage. He went to the ER vet that night and was hospitalized. I do work as a vet assistant, so the next morning when he was discharged, I brought him to my job for further care. At this point, I knew that I would not be able to take him back to the ER vet due to my finances, so I was doing everything I could to monitor him at home.

Last night, some unexpected complications came up, and Leo needed to be hospitalized again. Luckily, the VEHC worked with us so we could have him stay there until Monday. My fiancé and I are on a fixed income and are planning a wedding, so this has been incredibly hard for us not only emotionally but financially. There is also a possibility that on Monday, he is still unable to urinate properly and will need further care. At that point, I will not be able to afford it and will have to consider euthanasia, which is the absolute last thing I ever want to do. I want to give him a fighting chance, so I’m going to do everything I can.
