Leia is a 5-year-old American Pit with the sweetest heart. We rescued her from the animal shelter when she was only 4 months old. She had been found wandering the streets for who knows how long, but from the moment we brought her home, she became part of our family. She loves to cuddle, follows us everywhere, and could spend hours sunbathing in her favorite spots. Her tail never stops wagging and everyone who meets her instantly falls in love.
Recently something happened that has turned our world upside down. Leia suddenly became paralyzed on the left side of her face. She can no longer blink her left eye, her ear will not move, and eating or drinking has become a struggle. She has also started leaning and walking to the left, which is very concerning. Her most recent picture was taken at the urgent vet, and you can clearly see that the left side of her face is more droopy than the right. Now she can only give us half a smile.
We rushed her to the Urgent vet where she was given an anti-inflammatory shot to help reduce swelling and give her nerves a chance to heal. She is now taking daily medication to keep the inflammation down. We are hoping this treatment works, but if it does not, the next step is an MRI to find out exactly what is going on.
The MRI will cost around $3,000, and any help we receive would go toward both her vet visits and the MRI that may be needed. We want to do everything we can to make sure Leia gets the care she needs. She is more than just a pet to us. She is family, and she has been by our side through so much.
Any help you can give would mean the world to us and to Leia. Whether it is a donation or simply sharing this page, it brings us one step closer to finding answers and helping her recover. Thank you for caring about our sweet girl.
