Help Laz Through his Heart Attack

In August of 2017, Laszlo suffered his second heart attack and collapsed in the McGahan Clubhouse (formerly McCann Unit) while performing his work duties.

Since that time, Laz has not been able to work and has been forced out of his apartment due to his inability to pay his rent.

For the past 6 months, Laz has been fighting with the insurance company to get the coverage he rightfully deserves. This fight has been extremely difficult on him both financially and mentally, resulting in anxiety and depression. Sadly, Laz has been forced to rely upon the Foodbank on occasion to feed himself.

The intention of these funds are to allow him to (a) meet his day to day needs for food and shelter, (b) pay for his medication and (c) get an attorney to represent him with the insurance company so he may get the support he deserves after paying into the program for over 3 decades.

My sympathy is with him, a man who given his life to the OBGC by spending the past 34 years with the Club and made a difference is so many people's lives.

I still remember Laz as he was 30 years ago. Certainly he was loud and brash. He loved the Celtics, Larry Legend and the Redskins. He hated Russia and pretty much anything anybody else liked that didn't line up with his favorite teams.

But that wasn't who Laz really was or what he was about. He genuinely cared about each and every single kid. He cared about what was being done in the clubhouse and how it affected the members. He did the gross disgusting things that others wouldn't (cleaning up after somebody had pooped in the sink in the basement!).

He would run the park across the street from CTU all day long during the summer essentially making it a second gym - yelling out the time by looking at the sun, and then gloating at how close he was without a watch.

If you have a positive memory of Laz I urge you to please make a donation to help him through this incredibly rough time.  If 500 people decide to skip a movie this month and instead donate $20, we can reach this goal.
