Fourteen-year-old Mikail Nasir Khalid Payne was tragically taken from his family on May 21, 2026, following a shooting at the Montbello Recreation Center in Denver, Colorado. Mikail was a bright young man with a promising future, known for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to helping his parents in their landscaping business. He was respected by family and friends for his caring nature, responsibility, and hard work. According to those closest to him, Mikail was not involved in gangs or street activity. On the day of the tragedy, he was standing up for his brother during an altercation and did not initiate violence. In the midst of the confrontation, another teenager allegedly shot Mikail at close range. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. The loss of Mikail has left his family devastated. No parent should ever have to bury a child, and no sibling should have to endure the loss of a brother in such a senseless act of violence. The family is seeking support to cover funeral and burial expenses, memorial costs, and immediate needs as they navigate this heartbreaking time.
