Help Laurie & Darrell After Tragic Injuries

Hi all! My name is Jennifer and I am creating this for my dear friend Laurie and her husband Darrell. 2024 has not been kind to them and it came crashing down the week of Christmas.

Darrell is a below-the-knee amputee and a tow truck driver. After his amputation, obviously, work was put on hold while he learned to walk again with a prosthetic. This was only two years ago. Darrell is also diabetic, so healing took a lot longer than it does in those who don't have underlying medical issues.

Just as Laurie and Darrell were getting back on their feet, Darrell landed back in the hospital in November 2024 with a severe infection. After spending time in the ICU and the regular floor, he finally came home with skilled nursing visiting for a week after.

He was starting to get back to work and on December 22nd, he was working on his truck when it collapsed and broke his pelvis and spine in several places. With a severe spinal injury, Darrell has been told he may never walk again (which was already an issue with his recent amputation). This has been crushing to them.

Darrell has just been transferred to rehab and once home, continued intense physical therapy will be required to live as independently as possible. Laurie is the sole provider in the home and is being trained to assist in recovery upon return home. Laurie has used all of her PTO and her extended medical leave due to the major health issues that Darrell has experienced the last few years.

They have a very long road ahead of them, and being a tow truck driver is out of the question for the foreseeable future - if ever. Darrell won't be able to work and Laurie is limited right now with the immense amount of care and life adjustments this all means.

If you can help them, it would be such a gift. Having not one, but three tragic medical events happen in two years is brutal. They need support to make it through, pay their mortgage, and pay for medical expenses. Please help if you can.
