Help Latina Rent Storefront

Donation protected
Hello! We are Las Brewhas! We are a Latina-owned, family-run skincare line that is 100% sustainable; all of our ingredients are either supplied by local farms (shout out to Fishkill Farms!) or sustainably sourced from the amazon from indigenous sellers and we are raising money to rent our own storefront and attached apartment.

We started our soapy endeavor during quarantine after losing work due to the pandemics mass layoffs; we have now had more time to work on our passion for uplifting our community, caring for the planet, and providing more sustainable options in skincare. Combining past aesthetic and culinary experience (Gabby, who is in charge of making every single beautiful product you buy, is an avid activist who has gone to school to be both an aesthetician and a pastry chef, a profession she thrived in until restaurants were shut down), we were able to make products that are both beneficial for your skins health as well as the planet. We are completely plastic free, all of our products are packaged in recycled materials, even our stickers are printed with plant based ink! We think it is incredibly important to us to be as eco-friendly as possible, to do what we can to reduce the plastic waste that accompanies most soap and skincare products. Our goal is to open up a physical store and be able to have different weekly vendors that are local, especially looking to work with other QTBIPOC  (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color) vendors and artists. When we are able to have staff we will prioritize diversity and providing a community hub that is as unifying as it is COVID safe.

We have found a lovely space in Williamsburg/Greenpoint (11211) that is large and well ventilated, where we are currently having our pop up store. Although we have only been here a few days, we already feel at home. We have had people from the neighborhood come in and actively voice that they want us to stay, that they were drawn in by the delicious smelling soap, the art on the walls and the gentle live music that flowed last Saturday night from the lush backyard, that they find our commitment to community and art to be refreshing in an area that has found itself disconnected and barren due to Covid. If we were able to open this store it would be more than a shop, it would be a community hub, an area of comfort, activism, spirituality, education, and appreciation. We have already begun collaborating with other groups in the area such as The New Women's Space -- we are committed to empowering and uplifting the community if we are able to permanently rent this building.

In order to afford this shop we need to afford a down payment as well as the first month’s rent, and insurance needed for the store, we have been trying to figure out how much that would be but the landlord still hasn’t given us a solid number, but at the moment we are estimating that the initial cost would be about $5,000. Accompanying that, we are also asking for help with a few months rent as we stabilize ourselves in this environment.

This space also has a lovely apartment upstairs, that is just the right size for us. We have been looking for somewhere new to live since even before Covid started, and being able to live above our own shop would help cut costs such as bus and train fare, since our current apartment is about an hour away from the shop. The combined rent of renting the apartment and the store would also be more cost effective than renting the shop and our current home, and we need to make every penny count.

The shop is our top priority, but being able to move into the rooms attached and raising enough to cover the initial down payment and for the first few months rent there as well would be absolutely life changing and really help us find more stability in our lives.  Due to the combined cost of the store, insurance, and rent we are estimating that we will need about $15,000 to plant our roots here.

Please donate to help our family's company! If you are looking to help Latinas grow and reach their aspirations, sharing and donating this Gofundme is one fantastic way to do so.
