Help Lara & Kurt rebuild their lives

Donation protected

So you think lockdown has been rough on you huh? Our precious friend Lara was at work today, a normal day. A COVID lockdown 'normal' working day with vulnerable people when her world was flipped upside down. When Lara left home this morning to care for two beautiful ladies with a disability she didn't think it would be the last time she would see her newly renovated home standing. Around lunchtime today, Lara's and her partner Kurt's home went up in flames. How? The cause of the fire was said to be their brand new, recently installed solar panels. The couple had recently completed stunning renovations of their home, a spectacular deck build by them, their own sweat and hard work, it's all in that deck. The long wait for a magnificent lounge that Lara saved and saved and saved for... but now it's all gone. Everything. Is. Gone. Lara was at work, Kurt was at work. They only own what they are wearing. They have home insurance, it will be repaired eventually but the assessors can't come out until the end of next week. They have no home. No clothes. No food. No bed. No nothing. The insurance is even dragging their feet on accommodation as they have two dogs.

I have never heard Lara as i did today, her talking about everything that is lost. Photos, memories and their 'stuff'. Her cracking voice as she told me they were in the house trying to find whatever they could in the dark. Our usual bubbly, outgoing and happy Lara has been lost in this tragedy. Lara has dedicated her life to looking after others, with a long history of working within aged care and disability. The sleepovers, the long days, the emotional exhaustion that goes with the job. Over the years she has worked within a team that has seen more than its share of sadness but every time she stands tall and supports those around her and puts herself last to make sure everyone around her is looked after first. Lara is the sweetest, kindest person we know, and even now, as she stands with only her shirts and pants, if you needed them she would give them to you.

So now we need your help. It's going to be weeks before anything happens with insurance, Kurt and Lara need clothes, the basics, a place to stay. The house might have burnt down but the bank still wants to be paid. Lara has never asked for anything, and given her absolute everything to everyone else... so we now ask you to give what you can... because what happened to them, can easily happen to you and a little kindness goes a long way to put smiles back on peoples faces, even just for a minute.
