Help Laila Heal

Welcome all!

Our dear friend Laila Tova is a prolific creator of ideas and love. But to continue to create and inspire, they need your support. On April 1 of 2018, Tova survived attempted murder by screaming for help into their attacker’s phone while he made a call. They were able to protect their 4-and-half-year-old little human in the process, but the stress of that event destroyed their good health.

Thirty days later, they were attacked by a stranger in a case of mistaken identity. In the months following, they were subpoenaed to testify against their partner for a hearing that was delayed several times, required to remember and relive every detail to aid the prosecutor’s investigation, and ultimately gave a victim impact statement that outlined the devastating consequences of their partner’s violent attack. He was convicted of assault in the 4th degree and sentenced to 15 days in jail.

Unable to fulfill the demands of employment, Tova lived off of their student loans while they worked to complete, to no small sense of irony, their Certificate in Social Services and Mental Health.

Dozens of requests for support to social services, friends, and family members were made, most of them unfulfilled due to the deficit of trauma-informed care available to them through their only health insurer, Washington State Medicaid, and the cultural lack of awareness or concern for survivors of crime, especially domestic violence.

Now, however, their degree program has come to a close. They are no longer eligible for aid or loans from the college they attend, and several potential employers have been reluctant to rely on someone with such poor health (and rightly so). Thankfully, as we’ve established, Tova has a superpower: turning these harrowing, isolating experiences into beauty and joy that can be shared with others, and today, with you.

Your donation fills the gap by buying back Tova’s time and allowing them the peace of mind to create works that tell their story while caring for their tiny human. Together, we can create a world more compassionate to survivors of domestic violence and their children, and more full of art that transforms lives and empowers us all.

LONG TERM GOALS: read below...

Laila Tova (LY-luh toh-VAH) is a poet and artivist whose work explores themes such as grief, spirit, and identity. Tova’s work has been displayed at the Tacoma Art Museum, the Proctor Art Gallery, and featured in the Cultureshock Collective's "FEARLESS // FEAR US: An Unapologetic Look at Femme Sexuality and Sensuality” gallery show and exhibit. Tova has also performed live at the 1120 Creative House, 100th Monkey’s Sex Trafficking Awareness exhibit, Mary Mart’s Got Talent, eTc Tacoma Lifestyle + Rarewear’s Open Mic Night, and Gay City Arts’ “A Certain Type of Brilliance”—to name a few. Tova is also a professional writing tutor and freelance poetry editor. They are 26.

In the last year Tova has written 500 poems (see examples below), a number of original songs, and produced original paintings. There is an opportunity waiting for them in LA which could pay off big time! For this, we need financial support to buy plane tickets and pay for rental car, housing, and meals while in LA.

As Anabolic Aces Health Coaches, Chad and Natasha plan to help Tova by donating our time and our craft - coaching and creating a custom protocol for nutrition, lifestyle, and supplements. Given the healing power of proper nutrients and supplements, we feel confident our guidance can propel Tova into well-being and prosperity! Make no mistake - this won’t stop with just helping them. We have no doubt that Tova will go on to influence thousands, if not millions, of people as an advocate for social justice for all. Their potential is massive so we’re asking for your support to help us build a launching pad for Tova.

Budget for nutritious meals, supplements, and therapeutic services and supplies is being worked on and will be tabulated shortly.

AS A THANK YOU TO YOU - SUPPORTERS: we plan to host a live event at our house in Redmond, WA on Saturday, December 15, 2018. The event will feature live performance of song, poetry, and more by Tova and our friends. For those who live farther than driving distance from our house, we plan to livestream the event on FB so you don't have to miss out!

I thought I could build a bridge to Paradise
So I gathered all the steel a man could need
And stuffed my boots with gravel, willing
To bleed for the American Dream.
I drew patterns in the stars.
I composed blueprints by hand.
I marked my goal, and bent long days
At the hip.

Yet when I saw the curve of his shoulder
My eyes became rivers, flowing
Around the boulder of each muscle, lilting
On the branch of each tattoo
And I spilled my nails in the dirt, running
To steal him away
From work he did not believe in.
I showed him the patterns of the stars.
I revealed my blueprints, drawn by hand.
I set a new goal, and soldered new joints
At the hip.

But the muse eluded him. He saw only
The work. He became an ass, a rented mule,
The ox who would not turn, plowing
More rows than could be planted.
He lost all hope in dreams
And burned all bridges. It was then

That I saw the curve of heaven—
The horizon of my heart;
My eyes became rivers, flowing
Retreating, surrounding
The rock of each muscle, lilting
On the forrest-green branches
Of each lyrical tattoo.
And I spilled my teeth in the dirt, running
To get away
From work I did not believe in.
I marveled at the patterns of the stars.
I studied the roots, shoots, and leaves.
I released every goal, and swayed,
Sachet,
At the hip.

Daddy with the jazz hands
Played notes on my body for years
Made music from a whirligig girl
In a strange tune
Daddy with the jazz, mm
Hands around her waist
Jealousy playin on the radio
When he wasn't Jimi'ing me
Daddy with the bad hands
Flash-pan and gone
Remembered as a one-hit-wonder
Infamous and bird-free
Daddy with the sad, bad,
Glad, Jimi jazz hands
Carved this art into me
