Dear friends,
My name is Fulvia Steffenone, also known as Fufi. I am the Chef and owner of a small Italian restaurant, La Fufi- Caffe 'Milano, located in Tucson, Arizona. I would like to briefly tell you our story, and explain why we created this campaign.
In 2013, I moved from Italy to Tucson with my husband and four children. My husband and I wanted to bring authentic Italian cuisine to the United States. We bought a small restaurant, with the dream of creating a space where we could share our love for food with our customers as well as a place to enjoy the real Italian experience. We also wanted to give our children a better opportunity for their future. During the past seven years, we have been working tirelessly to achieve our dream, and had to overcome many obstacles. In 2018 we had to close the restaurant for a few months, after I received surgery. In 2019, my husband became sick and had to leave for Italy to receive treatment. During that time, I fought with all my strength to keep the restaurant open, but it has been very hard, as most of the load was on my shoulders. And, of course, throughout the years, we learned the hard way how overwhelming life as immigrants can be.
Then, with 2020 and the spread of Covid-19 in mid-April, we kept the restaurant open for delivery and take-out, hoping for a full reopening as soon as possible. However, after the exterior of our restaurant was damaged, we had to further postpone reopening. On top of this, I now have to go back to Italy to renew my VISA with my youngest child. Due to restrictions and the Pandemic, I am not sure when we will be able to come back.
I shared our story with you because we are looking for support to overcome the next few months of summer and COVID-19 circumstances. The restaurant will be closed during my absence. Therefore, we are trying to raise a little bit of money to cover the imminent costs, in hope to resume our activity as soon as possible. If possible, please consider donating but a simple share of our campaign on your Social Media platform will help immensely. Your help is greatly appreciated.
During these difficult times, we hope you all are safe and well, and we thank you for your support. We are extremely grateful for the love and help we received from friends and the community over the past few months. We look forward to reopening our restaurant during the New Normal, to keep sharing our passion for Italian food and culture with our beloved customers.
