Help Kyle's Car Become Whole Again
Donation protected
Hi friends!
I'll give you two versions of this story, one long and one short.
Short version:
Someone cut the catalytic converter off of Kyle's car and stole it. It will cost over 2,500 to fix, and we don't have that money in our budget. We need help to be able to pay for the repair, and we need this car for him to get to his job.
Long version:
In November, my car was hit while parked in front of our apartment. I didn't get it back until three months later, between the insurance company and repair shop facing various delays. During that time, Kyle and I shared his car. This required me to use some of my PTO and significantly strained our schedules as his work hours are vastly different from mine. But because it was a temporary situation, I could take a half-day here or there to make sure we both got to where we needed to be.
We had lived with just my car for a few years already. But in previous years, Kyle had only taken jobs that were within a walk or bike commute distance. His current position requires an hour-long commute, and is not on any public transport routes, so a car is essential for his work. Unless one of us completely changes our career, we can't fulfill all of our responsibilities with just one car.
We're also in a lean period. With Kyle enrolled in grad school full time, he's unable to work more than a part-time position. And I'm a public school teacher, so our budget is already pretty tight. We make ends meet but haven't been able to build an emergency fund.
This has completely blindsided us. Neither of us is comfortable asking for assistance, but this isn't a situation we can face independently. We're asking you, our community, to give any support you can. We have every intention of paying it forward as soon as possible.
From the bottom of our hearts: thank you!
