Help Kya get back on her toes!

Kya is a beautiful, smart, talented girl who is into ballet, loves her family (and the family dogs) and does great in school.  She was scheduled for a routine tonsillectomy in a Bismarck ND hospital on June 18, 2018 but due to her hemophilia she required an additional blood test that had not been completed prior. Her surgery was pushed off until June 25th and everything seemed to go as planned. However, since that time, there has been a whirlwind of setbacks causing much time away from her siblings and pets she loves so much, missing a ballet camp she was looking forward to, and much time off work for her dad. With medical bills piling up, the family has agreed to allow me to reach out for help.

After surgery on July 8th Kya had a major bleed, and upon arrival to the ER she was given a clotting medication called DDAVP, had two more bleeds, emergency surgery to stop them and stayed in the hospital for almost a week and was sent home on a medication called amicar, costing $1,500 AFTER insurance.

On July 15th she had a major seizure at 5am, resulting in an ambulance trip to the hospital, another admission, inability to use her legs due to numbness, and referrals to a pediatric neurologist in Grand Forks ND and a pediatric hematologist in Fargo ND (and more time away and off work).

On July 20th, while at the pediatric hematologist the family was told the amount of DDAVP and/or Amicar she was given was not only the cause of the seizure but could have killed her. She was admitted to the hospital in Fargo ND for further work up and monitoring as she was having signs of another possible seizure coming.  This hospital stay was a week and a half.

Kya is now home again, however she is having to undergo physical therapy to regain strength in her legs, continues to have follow up appointments in Fargo, and is afraid to be alone due to all she has been through.  Any and all donations will be used towards medical bills, travel expenses, and hotel stays.

The Ekstrom’s are the kindest family I have ever met, and they are always willing to help
someone in need. I can not think of anyone more deserving of our help during this scary time.  At this time, they need to not worry about the bills rolling in and be able to put all of their time and energy into helping their sweet girl get back to her normal, active, wonderful self.
