Help KungFood’s Employees & Repair Costs

We never thought we’d be asking you all this, but we need your help.

This has been a sweet and sour year for us. From the passing of dear friend and head chef Avelino, rising food costs, pandemic related closures, and now the destruction of our brand new kitchen exhaust fan, it really feels like we can’t catch a break. The only good thing about the last year and a half was being able to afford to keep on all of our employees while still paying them a fair wage, even while we closed.

And now, while we can afford to keep our employees paid for the next few weeks, we can’t do so without draining our emergency savings for events like this. Unfortunately, there’s a possibility that involved parties may not take responsibility for our broken hood system, and while this all gets worked out, we are at a standstill. Regardless of the outcome with insurance, we will take responsibility for our staff, paying them their full wage in addition to a majority, if not all of the tips that they would have earned. This will be an inordinate cost ranging between $20,000-$40,000+ depending on how long we must close, not even in addition to repairs/replacement parts for the hood system.

As a community driven business, we have made large contributions and held fundraisers for organizations such as The Point Arc, The ELL Foundation, Adore-A-Bull, and have donated food to hospitals, fire departments, and homeless shelters countless times. Because we have always put people over mass profit, we ask you to please support us through this frustrating and downright stressful time in our 13 year history in Covington.

To raise funds for payroll costs for the duration of our closure, we have set up this gofundme and will continue business through sales of frozen dumplings, bottled sauces, gift certificates, and merch beginning on Monday 7/26. *more info and hours to follow*

We will pay it forward 10x back after we recover from this hardship - that’s our promise to you and to our beloved community.

Sincerely,

The Chu Family
