Help Koda Heal: Support Sarah & Danielle's Family
Donation protected
Koda is an incredibly special dog. He has been a huge part of Sarah and Danielle’s family for the past 8 years. He is a loving therapy dog who has gotten them and their children through some very difficult times.
He is a chocolate lab who is nothing but loyal, gentle, loving, and truly believes he is just a lap dog! He is currently at the vet and they believe he has cancer. He is unable to use his hind legs at all and can’t move much. They are doing lots of tests and scans at the moment, and we all know how expensive that all is. Unfortunately, Danielle and Sarah are unable to afford all of this at this time. Please consider any amount of donation to help bring Koda home! The holidays are hard enough as it is. This added burden, as well as the heartbreak of having a family member (yes, Koda is a member of the family!) being so sick, is absolutely breaking the hearts of everyone who loves Koda. We just want him to come home and be comfortable for as long as possible.
UPDATE on Koda:
Koda is currently home. We had to make a difficult financial decision to bring him home to care for him ourselves and we just don’t have the money for long term vet care. Today’s visit was $1410, doing the minimum that we could to find answers and help him. Right now we are on a working theory that he may have an infection somewhere, as his white blood cells are high, he has a fever, and he is anemic. However, they can’t find anything visible, and we can’t afford ultrasounds and additional X-rays. His blood work ruled out tick-borne diseases, heart worm, etc. We are tasked with carrying him in and out of the house (he is a solid 120 pounds) multiple times a day to pee, or clean up any accidents. We have a 7 day course of two different antibiotics (those cost $400 alone). He does NOT want to take them. He is not eating, but he is drinking his water in Koda fashion. It’ll be a long week to see if we can get the meds in him, if he improves, and if he does- it’s more antibiotics for a longer course, which means more money.
If he does not respond to this treatment, he is likely to have cancer, and we are looking at end of life for him. We will make that decision as we watch him the next 24-48 hours. The last thing he deserves is any suffering, as hard as that decision will be, we know it’s closer than further away.
Our friends set up this gofundme, because Koda is a huge part of so many lives. He has been our therapy dog through so many things - so many countless things. He is loyal, gentle, steady, and everything a dog could possibly be. If you cry, he is there. If you’re sad, he is there. He just knows. We don’t deserve the love and loyalty that he is, and everything he has brought to our lives in 8 short years. We want more time, but we have limitations and quality of life to consider.
Thank you for a share, a like, a donation. We just want Koda to know how loved he is, and we will continue to share updates.
