My sister, Kirsten, has been an avid dog lover since she was a little girl. For enjoyment, she read dog encyclopedias and studied the different breeds so she could identify them and be knowledgeable. Throughout our lives, Kirsten has always had a dog by her side. This past May, Kirsten suddenly lost her 9-year-old Cedric to congestive heart failure. Kirsten was devastated. In June, a 3-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog found his way into her life and, more importantly, into her heart. Cooper has become her constant companion. Cooper is a lovable, attentive, goofy ball of fluff. This week, Cooper had to have emergency surgery because he had several areas of concern in his intestines. There was a fluid mass as well as blockages. He has had round-the-clock care at the animal hospital before surgery and 24 hours after surgery. He came home showing signs of improvement. Unfortunately, less than 12 hours after Cooper's homecoming, he was rushed to the animal hospital. It was at this point that the vet gave him an IV (enough to give him energy and strength to make the 3-hour drive) and informed Kirsten that he was being referred to a specialist for an emergency evaluation and care. Cooper is at the University of Kansas where they are doing blood work and determining how to treat the sepsis. My sister is completely devastated. This is her child. She has already spent her emergency savings on his surgery and care and is overwhelmed with the financial burden this is growing into because the bills are surpassing the amount from Cooper's initial surgery. Her 9-month-old fur baby is fighting for his life. His tail wags for her, so he is trying to hang on. Please consider making a donation to help Kirsten afford the care for her beloved baby, Cooper.
