Help Kira walk and heal her brain

Kira is a normal 6 year old girl trapped inside a rollercoaster of a body. When we pick her up from school her smile beams and excitement overflows. Soon after she is asleep because although she doesn't run and play like her friends just managing her own body is tenfold the effort.
After a healthy, happy pregnancy Kira had a challenging delivery. Due to stress and aspiration she experienced a significant lack of oxygen.


The resulting diagnosis is Cerebral Palsy. Kira can think just like you and I and her body can do all the things we do... but the scar on her brain makes it hard for the good thoughts to reach her otherwise healthy body. Kira can barely hold her head up and rolling, crawling, talking, eating, pointing and walking unassisted are not things she can do YET!
There are two important procedures available in the United Sates. Both are proven successful to impove the function of children with cerebral palsy and neither are offered in Canada yet.
SPML: (Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening) Kira loves her walker! She wants to walk around freely without pain. She is eager to dance and actively participate in life. This procedure will allow for relief of the spasticity in Kira's legs and is the best chance she has to walk. Although we stretch Kiras legs daily she is developing irreversable shortening of the muscles. We know children personnally who have gone from not walking to walking not only with minimal walker support but even completely independant. There is no guarantee Kira will walk independently, but releasing the pull in Kira's legs can allow her walk and sit more effectively. Her trunk and neck will hopefully also strengthen which can lead to more body and voice control. The sooner Kira has this non-invassive procedure the faster she can relearn how to move her body. Kira is currently booked for SPML July 13 in Texas. After the surgery intensive therapy will be needed to train Kira to use the new freedom within her body and recreate brain/body pathways.
Stem Cell Therapy:
Kira’s best chance at overall growth is with her little brother Grayson's umbilical cord blood Stem Cells!
With your help she will receive her brothers stem cells at Duke University. We saved his cord blood at birth in hope that science would one day find a cure. In October 2017, after many years of research, Duke University has been granted FDA approval to give compassion care transfusions to children like Kira with their own or sibling cord blood. This is not a cure but an optimistic opportunity for improvement in the quality of life for Kira and our family. We hope to have her treatment 6 months after SPML (early 2019). The recommended dose is based on weight ratio. Our window of opportunity is short based on Kira's growth patterns and available stem cells. After they administer the super healing stem cells Kira will have approximately 6mths for them to seek out unhealthy/injured tissue and repair/rebuild. During this time it is crucial that Kira has intensive therapy to help create neural pathways and retrain her brain and body.
The SPML and Stem Cell transfusion each come with an approximate fee of $15,000USD. Duke University is in North Carolina and SPML is in Texas. Therefore, flights and accommodation will be an added expense. We will be at each location for 5 days. The intensive therapies required to retrain Kiras brain and body will cost us upwards of $7000USD. Without the intensive therapy it would be like buying an airplane but not learning how to fly it.
