Help Kinzleigh Fight Cancer

My niece Kinzleigh is a spunky, charismatic almost-two-year-old. Her favorite things include animals, singing, dancing, and her mommy. 

On October 4th, my family’s lives fell apart when our precious baby was diagnosed with a malignant yolk sac tumor. Following this, on October 12th Kinzleigh’s tests came back and showed that she has stage 4 cancer that has spread throughout her body, as well as pneumonia and an e. coli infection from her recent surgery.

A yolk sac tumor is a rare, malignant tumor of cells that line the yolk sac of an embryo. The cause is unknown. The tumor should have been recognized through ultrasounds before Kinzleigh was born and removed during infancy; due to the low quality medical services we were provided, it was missed. Instead, we continuously took her to the hospital for respiratory problems and pain symptoms and left with minor, incorrect diagnoses. After Kinzleigh’s tumor became large enough it was externally visible and her pain became constant, she was seen at three different hospitals before receiving appropriate medical attention.

Kinzleigh is currently receiving her first round of chemotherapy at Riley Children’s Hospital. Although Riley is 2 hours from Kinzleigh’s home, my family decided to transfer her so that she can finally receive the quality of care she deserves. The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide my family the means to continue Kinzleigh’s treatment at Riley Children’s Hospital. Riley is nationally ranked for quality cancer care and has a tremendous survival rate; however, my family’s commitment to accessing this high quality health care has put us in a financial crisis. My mother is a single mother of 5 children, I am the oldest; my sister/ Kinzleigh’s mother is 18 years old and currently pregnant with her 2nd child. Since Kinzleigh’s diagnosis, my mom and sister have been unable to work. Contributions would go to travel costs and lost wages, in addition to medical bills, medication co-pays, etc.
