My name is Kimani Howard from Brooklyn NY, and I am a student at Emory University in Atlanta GA. By this summer, I will be a rising senior studying sociology. As a sociology major, I feel that I can take my skills into many different fields to help develop community reform.
I have been accepted to the Comparative Health London Study Abroad program for Summer 2018. Studying abroad in London will be a valuable opportunity for my future personal and career goals.
Studying abroad in London grants me the opportunity to learn how the public health system in the UK reduces health inequalities in different social classes, by promoting healthier lifestyles. Also I will be able to study why London's public health system may or may not work in the United States. As we all know healthcare in our country is not the best unless you have the money to pay for it. I expect the experience to integrate my academic studies in sociology through its concentration on individual research throughout the five week program. London is a great location to study abroad in because it’s very diverse and has a culture filled with unique music, education, politics, finance, and people.
I am seeking your help in trying to make it to London or "bust". The program is very expensive and I am unable to get there on my own. Until now, my mother, a single parent has worked tirelessly to make sure that my educational needs were met, yet she is unable to cover the entire cost of this part of my education. Your donations will help cover: tuition, lodging, meals, and airfare. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Help me create a new chapter in my life and my future career.
