Help Kim Steele Beat Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kimberly Young. I am fundraising along with Donna Gilliam (sister) for my friend now family member Kim Gilliam Steele. I met her in 2016 when she came to the inpatient rehab where I work as a nurse. She was a quadruple amputee after surviving anaphylactic shock, Septic Shock and beating the odds of having a less than 9 percent chance of living. She has an incredible spirit and helps so many. She became a certified peer visitor with the Amputee Coalition and shares her story of survival. She encourages others that no matter what you are faced with you can still live a wonderful life despite our circumstances. She is now facing yet another obstacle! She was recently diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) and started her first treatment on February 3rd. I know she is going to kick this in the butt and give it no where to hide in her body! She will make something meaningful and beautiful out of this! She is feeling strong and empowered and knows there are many others facing a worse type of cancer in a later stage dealing with more horrific odds! She can’t change it but she has changed her outlook and how she will deal with what is happening to her and around her! She reminds herself of that day in 2016 where she survived something that should have taken her life! Her journey has been nothing short of amazing and has conquered so many things that others thought she couldn’t! One of the biggest odds is living on her own with her three dogs Peanut, Paisley and Stormy. She takes care of her own needs and even drives a regular vehicle with no adaptive equipment. She is still on a waiting list from 2019 to make her home handicap accessible. If she gets a blister on her residual limb she can not wear her prosthetics. Even though she has a wheelchair it will not fit through her doorways so she has to use knee pads and crawl through her home. She also has to crawl into her shower because it is also not handicap accessible. She lives on very limited income. She is trying to live her best life and pushes herself to do things she has never done before and probably wouldn’t have done had this not happened to her. Nothing about this will be easy for her but she will face it the best that she can. There are no government programs available in Georgia to assist with her needs and she has tried contacting everyone she can will only ending up with dead ends. She has suited up for battle and ready to try and conquer this next phase of her life. The dawn after the darkness is coming and she will be there to meet it when it does. I’m wanting to ease any financial burdens by helping with any uninsured medical expenses, mortgage payments, household expenses, necessary personal items, transportation expenses, parking fees at the hospital, and any other unexpected expenses that may arise from this. Your prayers are also greatly appreciated!
