Help Kim Fight Breast Cancer

Donation protected
I am reaching out to you to help me raise money for my dear friend's mother Kim. I have been friends with Kim's children for over 10 years & personally witnessed the tough times they have been through by helping their mom fight breast cancer.

Kim is a dedicated wife and mother of three. She worked for many years as a nurse. In 2009, she was diagnosed with stage two, double-negative breast cancer. She fought hard against cancer & had gone through a bilateral mastectomy & chemotherapy treatments. Her treatments were successful, & she had gone into remission.

Unfortunately, cancer has returned & the prognosis is far worse than before. In 2015, Kim experienced the first signs of her cancer returning. She experienced sharp pains in her left-side rib. After multiple visits to her oncologist to report her pain, she was assured that it was just muscle pain & was told that she did not need a CT. She lived with the reoccurring pain for 2 years under the constant assurance from her doctor that it was NOT a concern & with no further follow-ups.

Things started to take a turn for the worse last year when she was noticed that simple things like walking were becoming difficult, as it caused to experience shortness of breath. After a chest x-ray, CT scans, & a biopsy, her fear was confirmed, & cancer had returned. She was diagnosed with stage 4 triple negative breast cancer.

Her world crumbled in front of her as she became dependent on oxygen to breathe & unable to walk without getting short of breath & fatigued. She suffered from consistent productive coughing for weeks that left her in pain. Her current oncologist hoped that the chemotherapy would provide a better quality of life of what she has left. Knowing that her diagnosis is poor, she wanted more time with her family & started palliative treatment. The 1st chemotherapy treatment caused an allergic reaction. She ended up with pneumonitis & got admitted to the ICU for almost 2 weeks. Her cough went away, & so she stayed positive.

After another allergic reaction to another chemotherapy, she was hospitalized again for about a week. She is currently on her 3rd chemotherapy drug and it has been agreeing with her.

This disease has had a crippling effect on Kim & her family. As her health has deteriorated, Kim is now confined to a wheelchair & is no longer able to do the job that she loves. Her husband had to quit his job as she requires constant care. Her kids are also supporting her- missing work (some traveling out of state) to accompany her while she is being hospitalized.

I tried setting up a page to help cover some of the expenses a while back, to which she did not feel comfortable with. But with the progression of events, I felt the need to try and help.

I am hoping that we can give back to Kim & her family, just as Kim has been doing so for many people through her love of nursing. If you are able, please consider sharing & contributing in any amount. I know that this will be greatly appreciated.
