Help Kenyan Schools Launch Remote Learning

Who is asking for this funding?

We are an international, youth-led organization working to further educational equity around the world! You can explore the content we produce and the work we do by visiting us here at genzeducation.org.

 

Our tutoring project, the Global Education Initiative, is an international coalition of volunteers, organizations, and schools worldwide that partner to develop and distribute free courses for students. Our courses all fall within any of 4 core categories:

Where will this money go?

Our immediate goal is to raise at least $2,676 for students in Kenyan schools to be able to access our courses. Currently, access to electricity and devices from which students can access our courses are extremely limited. This money will ensure students are able to learn remotely, not only with the GEI's courses, but with those provided by other organizations willing to help these students, such as the Wynton House of Music , which provides young girls with online music lessons.

We are working with 3 Kenyan schools in the same community that will all benefit from this funding and be able to launch remote learning: World Gate Academy, Mwamba ECDE Center, and Jirongo DEB. With $2,800, a pilot group of 190 students will be able to transition to remote learning, and our program will continue expanding to reach the 1,200 students currently interested in the program!

How do you know that you're making a difference?

Check out this YouTube page run by the local advisor of the Kenyan schools we are working with! Many teachers, volunteers, and community leaders are hard at work trying to ensure students stay on track with their education despite the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Currently, there are small-scale programs in place to teach students about general hygiene, basic technology skills, music, empowerment of women. However, with this funding, these programs and the hard-working individuals who run them will be able to expand and hire new educators so their reach can extend to all the students in the community.

What are our long-term goals?

Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the more we will be able to provide for these students and the more students we will be able to help! Our primary long-term goal is to provide every student with a laptop of their own so they can complete assignments from home. We also aim to provide educational materials for schools and students, including classroom projectors, textbooks, and instruments for students to be able to practice their music at home.
