Help Kegan Get His Eyesight Back

Kegan has a degenerative eye disorder called Keratoconus, in which he is genetically predisposed. Keratoconus is the progressive thinning and bulging of the cornea, resulting in severe visual impairment. In other words, a healthy cornea is shaped like a ball, whereas Kegan's cornea is shaped like a cone. This does not mean he is blind, this means that his vision is extremely distorted. 
To give you an idea, in an eye exam he could only read the big E (at the very top of the chart), even with his glasses on. Kegan has been wearing glasses for several years now, but glasses are ineffective when it comes to Keratoconus. 

Did you even know Kegan couldn't see? Yeah, me either. Because of his selfless nature, he NEVER complains, or lets anyone see how much this effects his everyday life, especially his art career. Even Kegan's wife, who is my best friend, did not know how bad he was struggling until very recently. 
Kegan began to notice significant changes in his vision about 4 years ago. Keratoconus is infamous for rapidly progressing in early adulthood. It has gotten to the point where he can no longer drive, or even perform ordinary daily functions. This has had a major influence on his education and career opportunities. Can you even imagine being an artist who can't see? 

One of the most effective and inexpensive treatments for Keratoconus is the use of Scleral contacts. A Scleral contact is a hard and large lens that rests on the sclera, and creates a tear-filled vault over the cornea. This is what separates Sclerals from other soft or rigid gas permeable contacts, which are ineffective in treating Keratoconus. Although Scleral contacts are more expensive than the average contact lens,
other treatments for this condition include things like cornea transplants and corneal cross linking, which are outrageously expensive surgical procedures.  
I work for an Optometrist here in Amarillo, who is the only doctor that designs and prescribes Scleral contacts in the area. 
His first appointment to be fitted for Scleral contacts is Wednesday, December 19th. He will have to wait a few weeks after the appointment to receive his lenses, which is when he will pay for them.  

It is so easy to take your vision for granted when your problems can be easily corrected with glasses or contacts. It is next to impossible to try to imagine what Kegan goes through everyday.
