Help Keep Jamie Home

We, Jamie's family, are trying to raise money to keep him home and out of a long term care facility. Jamie has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is 100% dependant on a ventilator. He has no ability to care for himself in any capacity, which means he requires 24 hr one on one nursing care. My mother has always been Jamie's primary care giver, but due to her recent breast cancer diagnosis, and the increasingly demanding care Jamie requires, she is unable to take care of him anymore. Jamie has been approved through the state for 24 hour nursing care, but because of the rural area they live in, finding nurses in the area has been a constant struggle. This has drastically decreased Jamie's quality of life, causing him considerable amounts of pain due to not being turned at night, not getting out of bed or going to bed in a timely manner, and lack of his need to frequently reposition in his chair during the day. No amount of pain medication can replace the need for this kind of care. We are asking for donations to staff nurses when the companies hired to staff nurses cannot or will not do so. If Jamie has to go to a facility, the closest who are equipped to care for ventilator patients is either in Iowa, or possibly in Joplin. He will be too far from family, and will have to share nurses with other patients, meaning his needs will never fully be met. This is absolutely about not only prolonging Jamie's life, but also providing the best quality of life possible. He has suffered greatly due to lack of nurses/nurses not being reliable and calling in without giving any notice. We need to be able to hire nurses and private pay on an as needed basis. This is our last ditch effort to keep Jamie home, and out of a care facility. We fully believe if he has to go to a care facility, he will decline quickly.
