Help Keep Chad Alive

When chad was 5, she started having thoughts of wanting to die as a result of abuse. these thoughts have persisted throughout her life and while she’s managed to stay afloat it’s been hard. she does ect—electroconvulsive therapy—where she’s put under anesthesia and given a series of seizures to help reset her brain, in a way. she’s done this off-and-on for several years and it works but there are heavy side effects like memory loss, migraines, days spent sleeping after anesthesia.

TMS—transcranial magnetic stimulation—is another therapy which is said to help cases like chad’s. TMS is when you’re fully conscious and small pulses are sent through your head to alter brain chemistry. unlike ect which can take weeks to see if it’s working, TMS could see results in just a few days or a week.

chad’s insurance does tms but won’t do it for her for 3+ months because of waiting lists. an outside clinic she can go to can take her on monday, may 3, at 9am. the problem is that chad’s insurance won’t reimburse for the week’s treatment. the cost of the treatment with the outside clinic is $4700. and chad can’t wait 3+ months with her insurance because she’s rapidly declining and we’re worried about her safety, to be completely honest.
