Help Keep Brighton & Hove Sapphics Free For Everyone

Hi Sapphics,

If you’ve ever come along to a quiz night, joined us for a Sunday roast, made new friends at a singles night, or clinked glasses at Fizz on the Beach — you’ve been part of something special.

Brighton & Hove Sapphics was set up to build a vibrant, welcoming space for sapphics in Brighton and Hove. It’s grown into a thriving MeetUp group with over 1,000 members — and we want to keep it that way, but we need your help.

What We’re Raising Money For:

To keep the group running free for everyone, we need to raise £279.99 by 31st October 2025.

That’s the annual subscription fee to keep Brighton & Hove Sapphics active on the MeetUp platform. This covers:

All event listings

Bookings and RSVPs

Public advertising of events to members

— all at zero cost to you.

If we don’t reach our target by the deadline, we will work with GoFundMe to request that all donations can be returned. However, if the money in full is not raised, it could mean that the Meetup Group can no longer continue.

‍♀️ Who Organises All This?

Beth, the organiser donates a huge amount of her time, planning, completing admin and hosting completely for free. She’s hosted a huge range of events alone and with help from a few lovely others, including:

Sapphic Singles Nights

Fizz on the Beach @ Brighton Pride

Quizzes, walks, drinks, chess, Sunday Roasts, Brighton Fringe shows, drag shows, stand-up, Trans Pride… and plenty more.

She has paid the full subscription fee for the current year, but can’t keep doing so indefinitely.

Why We’re Asking for Donations:

The alternative to group fundraising would be for each member to pay their own MeetUp subscription — which defeats the point of being accessible to everyone.

So if this group has ever helped you feel less alone, made you laugh, given you a place to meet others, or just made a rainy Sunday a bit more fun — please consider donating.

Even £2 or £5 makes a difference. If every member gave just a small donation, we’d be sorted in no time.

❗Important Notes

Donations do not give you any special access, rights, or priority at events.

All events remain subject to capacity, availability, and fairness.

100% of funds go toward the MeetUp group fee only.

However, it is important to note that GoFundMe automatically deduct 2.9% + £0.25 from each donation. So in order to raise the £279.99 needed, the target is adjusted to allow for this. Should there be any difference at the end, any money over will be donated to charity.

If the full amount isn’t raised by 31st October 2025, all donations will be returned.
